Goodbye Saint-Brieuc

Bonjour !

It's already our very last day in Saint-Brieuc...! Tomorrow, we are taking the bus to go to Paris for a visit of the capital, so students are spending one last day with their host families.

On Thursday, we had a pretty studious day, with classes and language exams. Friday, however, was our last day at the Lycée and we had a lot of fun activities! First, we started with rehearsals for the evening farewell show.

 





 

We then had an early lunch before going to the city center to watch the Tour de France! It's quite lucky that the route of the Tour is going through Saint-Brieuc this year, which it doesn't always, and we thought it would be an interesting experience for our students. It was a pretty hot day, but we found some shade on the side of the road, and, fortunately, it wasn't as busy as we thought it might be! First, we saw La Caravane du Tour, which passes by a couple of hours before the cyclists. All the sponsors of the Tour go by and give out some goodies and merch, which our students were thrilled about. Then we waited for the cyclists and watched them zoom through for a couple of minutes! Although quite short, it was fun, and I think students will keep fond memories of the afternoon!








































 




















Then, it was back to the lycée for one last rehearsal, dinner, and then the farewell show! Student had prepared dances, musical performances, and a couple of sketches, which they performed in front of the host families. Laëtitia had also prepared a montage of the past four weeks, which students and families discovered after the show! Then, we had a reception and a small dance party.




































 

 The next blog post will most likely be on Wednesday, with pictures of the Paris trip!

Travel Day and First Few Days in France

   Sunday, June 14th, 3:00pm Bonjour from Saint-Brieuc!  After a long two days of travel, we have made it to our homes for the next four weeks! Both our flights were slightly delayed, but, fortunately, it did not impact our trip too much. We landed in Paris at around 10:30am local time, and were met by Laëtitia, our onsite coordinator, her dad, who is part of one of the host families, and Océane. The Saumur group was also met by their onsite team, and after saying goodbye to them, we parted ways and headed to Saint-Brieuc.  The bus ride went well and we avoided traffic. Speaking only French was a challenge for the students at first, but they quickly got used to finding round-about ways to express themselves (involving some hand gestures, pointing, and describing with language they know)! Settling in under the Saint-Brieuc sun

  Wednesday, June 18th, 5:30pm  Bonjour les familles américaines ! The past four days since I last posted here have been intense and full of discoveries, but students are settling in nicely! On Sunday, a trip to the beach was organized and all the students attended. Those whose families couldn't make it were picked up by other host parents to make sure everyone could enjoy the sun and warm weather. We had a picnic on the beach and students played volleyball, soccer, cards, and some even went for a swim despite the water being quite cold. Others just relaxed and enjoyed the sun. Here are some pictures of the day:     On Monday, after a morning of classes, students enjoyed lunch at the school cafeteria. Every day they get a starter (usually a choice of salad, some deli meat, fruit, etc.), a main, a dairy product (cheese or yogurt), a dessert (pastry, piece of cake, fruit, chocolate mousse, etc.), as well as bread and water. End of Week 1

Sunday, June 22nd, 7pm Bonjour ! The end of week 1 is already here and was a busy one! On Thursday, we had classes in the morning, and after lunch we celebrated Elise's birthday with cakes and some music!         After celebrating Elise, Océane introduced them to le Mont-Saint-Michel, our next excursion. They learned about the history of the site as well as some facts about the monument in 2025.      Then, the rest of the afternoon was spent preparing for the farewell show and preparing contributions for the program magazine.   On Friday, we met students at 7:15am to head to le Mont-Saint-Michel. The drive lasted about an hour and a half, and we stayed about 4 hours on site. We made the climb to the abbey as a group but then students were free to explore in groups of three. Some spent a long time visiting the abbey while others spent more time in the various shops of the village.             We then had our sack lunch...
